What began as a $1,500 grassroots initiative has transformed into a $30 million organization, impacting 30,000 individuals annually through over 30 diverse programs.

SAY San Diego's initiatives empower youth, adults, families, and communities to realize their full potential by concentrating on three primary domains:

Child and Youth Development:
Offers early home visiting, preschool services, and before-and-after school programs at more than 45 locations.

Wellness for Youth, Adults, and Families:
Provides child abuse prevention, foster care assistance, mental health counseling, healthcare navigation, and case management services.

Community Engagement:
Engages in community organizing, coalition building, and operates multi-service family resource centers, supporting military families, refugees, and economically disadvantaged families.

SAY San Diego prioritizes eco-system support, addressing individuals within the context of their family and community environments.

The organization is recognized for its commitment to preventing harm and hardship while actively involving community members in developing solutions – including those from refugee and asylee backgrounds, military families, LGBTQ+ individuals, and diverse cultural, racial, linguistic, and economic communities.


THE POSITION
SAY San Diego seeks a visionary, strategic, impact-oriented, and mission-driven leader to serve as its next CEO.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic leadership and direction by articulating a clear vision, reinforcing the organizational culture, establishing goals, and empowering the executive management team.


Visionary Leadership – The CEO will cultivate an inclusive vision that inspires and motivates SAY San Diego's workforce and stakeholders.

They will collaborate to meet the needs of children, families, and communities, creating a compelling vision of a brighter future and a shared commitment to achieving operational, programmatic, and revenue-generating objectives.


Strategic Development – The CEO will work alongside the Board and the executive management team to enhance organizational effectiveness and ensure financial sustainability and growth in a complex landscape.


Community Building – The CEO will promote a culture of service, engagement, and learning, with a strong emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

They will maintain and expand relationships with key community stakeholders and act as a prominent ambassador and advocate for SAY San Diego.


QUALIFICATIONS


Significant leadership experience and expertise in human services, particularly in child and youth development, healthcare, community organizing, mental and behavioral health services, social justice, and social determinants of health.

Experience from various sectors such as nonprofit, government, education, social enterprise, and public policy will be considered.


Demonstrated wisdom and prudence in financial resource management, with sufficient fiscal oversight experience to understand the fiduciary responsibilities of a complex organization.

Familiarity with the processes and accountability associated with government funding is strongly preferred.

Proven success in fundraising, strategic planning, and board relations will be highly regarded.

An advanced degree in social work, human services management, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred.


Alternatively, a demonstrated successful history in a senior leadership role within a complex human services organization recognized for its commitment to exemplary community and client service will be considered equivalent to a degree.

COMPENSATION & ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

The annual salary range for this position is $240,000 to $270,000. Relocation assistance, if necessary, is negotiable. A comprehensive and competitive benefits package will be provided.

The CEO is expected to maintain a regular presence in the office and be available for frequent in-person meetings with staff, board members, donors, and community members.
