About the Job

We are seeking a seasoned Communications Director to join our team at the City of New York. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive public relations strategies, managing our media relations, and maintaining positive relationships with local and national press outlets.

In this role, you will work closely with our Associate Commissioner of Strategic Communications to support various initiatives on behalf of the Mayors Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME). You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing public relations strategies to promote MOME services and initiatives;
  • Managing day-to-day media relations for MOME and its divisions;
  • Fielding incoming press inquiries and pitching story ideas related to MOMEs portfolio and marketing efforts;
  • Responding to relevant news cycles and offering MOME representatives to speak to the press;
  • Writing press releases to promote MOME services and initiatives;
  • Working with City Hall comms/press teams and speechwriters for mayoral press conferences, press releases, events, etc.;
  • Maintaining and building press contacts as well as a database of press coverage for the agency;
  • Strategizing on PR and marketing efforts;
  • Helping produce press events for MOME; and supporting partner press events via media outreach, quotes, and speaking engagements;
  • Writing and editing stories for the MOME monthly newsletter;
  • Helping prepare and send weekly/daily press updates to City Halls Communications office;
  • Drafting briefing documents, talking points, remarks/speeches on behalf of MOME as needed;
  • Maintaining and promoting relevant stats about the industries in the MOME portfolio;
  • Meeting with leadership/department heads/managers/teams regarding newsworthy initiatives;
  • Helping manage social media networks when necessary;
  • Attending industry events to stay abreast of current trends and for networking purposes;
  • Helping suggest the events with which MOME should support/participate;
  • Preparing and distributing daily news briefs to MOME staff when needed;
  • Handling special projects and initiatives as assigned.
