Job Summary

Pediatrix Medical Group is seeking an experienced Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our Maternal Fetal Medicine team in Houston. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound services to patients in our MFM Clinic.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting.
  • Work independently and with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women.
  • Escorts patients and families to and from examination rooms.
  • Explains exams to patients and families prior to the commencement of the test to ensure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
  • Maintains patient charts and records, and records/processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.
  • Creates preliminary reports for physician review/signature.
  • Reviews studies with physicians.
  • Assists physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
  • Codes appropriately for services performed.
  • Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment.
  • Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintains laundry for examination rooms.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
  • Follows accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode where applicable.
  • Follows and complies with universal precautions and OSHA standards.
  • Follows and complies with safety and security training.
  • Rotates as needed to cover Sonographer absences.
  • Performs related and other assigned duties as directed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting. MFM experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
  • ARDMS OB/GYN certified or eligible.
  • Fetal echo certification or eligible to obtain with 12 months of hire. Fetal echo experience preferred or will be provided.
  • Completion of a program containing OB/GYN ultrasonography.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Satisfactory completion of one of the following; at least two (2) years in Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year on-the-job-training in ultrasonography, or completion of an approved ultrasonography educational program.
  • Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
  • Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
