This position is situated within a corporate office setting. The role frequently utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Occasionally, this role requires access to a manufacturing area, where one may encounter moving machinery and equipment. It is essential to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times while in the manufacturing facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Proposal Development:
a. Generate proposals for new components based on customer specifications.
b. Specify suitable machine tools, materials, cycle times, tooling costs, subsequent operations, and external services required.
2. Documentation and Tool Layout:
a. Develop tool layout sheets detailing all tooling and hardware necessary for setting up specific jobs on designated machine tools, including identifying inventory numbers for perishable tools to assist operators in locating the correct cutting tools.
b. Create color-coded offset prints to communicate to machine operators the impact of specific tools on part geometry, enabling them to make necessary adjustments to maintain specifications.
c. Regularly update layouts and offset prints to reflect process enhancements and modifications.
3. CNC Programming and Process Engineering:
a. Design machining processes, including:
i. Sequence of operations.
ii. Selection of machine tools.
iii. Selection of cutting tools.
iv. Selection of work holding methods.
v. Appropriate machining processes to achieve desired outcomes, such as drilling, reaming, boring, burnishing, broaching, threading, and more.
vi. Determine suitable machining parameters (speeds, feeds, and depth of cut) based on workpiece and cutting tool materials and geometries.
vii. Create CNC programs using CAD/CAM software such as Partmaker or Espirit for various CNC machines.
viii. Set up part files in the tool presetter for all relevant processes.
4. Training:
a. Educate personnel on machine setup, operation, and repair for all relevant machinery.
5. Continuous Improvement:
a. Monitor and enhance cycle times and process capabilities across all CNC machines.
6. Machine Setup:
a. Execute machine setups when the department is behind schedule or when the designated setup personnel are unavailable.
7. Problem Solving:
a. Participate in corrective action meetings with quality control to offer technical solutions for process inefficiencies and quality issues.
8. Machinery Troubleshooting:
a. Seek guidance from machine manufacturers when internal resolutions are insufficient.
b. Possess knowledge of Siemens Step 7 PLC programming to diagnose malfunctions within machine logic systems.
c. Identify and procure cost-effective replacement components for machine repairs.
d. Coordinate the repair and refurbishment of mechanical and electronic components.
9. Manufacturing of Replacement Parts:
a. Fabricate repair and replacement components for machine tools.
