Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or manager, the Surgical Boarding Specialist Coordinator will be responsible for the completion of the Surgical Boarding Process, including but not limited to:

  • Assuring completion of the Surgical Boarding Sheet
  • Verifying patient demographics to ensure financial viability
  • Obtaining authorization and referrals for surgical procedures and ancillary tests
  • Providing clerical support services as needed
Responsibilities:

The Surgical Boarding Specialist Coordinator will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team, cultivating a good rapport with physicians and staff to promote good working relations.

The incumbent will utilize knowledge of medical terminology to transcribe and prepare the OR Surgical Boarding form, patient medical information, medical reports, and other materials as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assuring completion of the OR Surgical Boarding form and faxing to the HUH Boarding Room
  • Contacting HUH OR to confirm receipt of the boarding sheet and date/time of procedure
  • Contacting patients to confirm OR/Surgery/Procedure date and time, patient demographics, and addressing patient questions/concerns/comments
  • Accessing physician's Outlook Calendar, inserting OR/Procedure, and marking Outlook Calendar as confirmed with date/initials
  • Referring to the Registered Nurse as needed
  • Providing patients with OR/Surgery/Procedure instructions/directions as provided by/directed by the Registered Nurse
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Additional college or vocational school coursework preferred
  • General knowledge of medical terminology
  • Detail-oriented
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • At least 1 year experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with insurance authorization process preferred
