In this pivotal role, reporting directly to the Global Director of Rights Management, you will be instrumental in ensuring that all talent and third-party rights are properly cleared, contracted, and licensed for a wide array of projects.
Role Summary:
As the Rights Management Specialist, you will serve as the primary authority on talent and third-party rights for projects originating in North America and extending to our global operations.
Your expertise will be vital in navigating the intricacies of both union and non-union talent agreements, ensuring adherence to industry guidelines while advocating for our clients' best interests.
Moreover, you will play a key role in crafting and executing strategies for effective rights management across various media channels, with a focus on global repurposing and long-term asset utilization.
Key Responsibilities:
Rights Clearance:
- Collaborate with production teams to determine optimal methods for talent usage, waivers, and contracts.
- Negotiate and oversee talent contracts and renewals, ensuring favorable terms and compliance.
- Secure usage rights for all project components, including talent, music, stock footage, and other third-party materials.
- Conduct comprehensive rights research and clearance for both original and stock content.
Contract Management:
- Draft, review, and process talent agreements, ensuring precision and compliance with legal standards.
- Oversee talent payments, track invoices, and maintain detailed financial records.
- Generate and analyze talent estimates, renewals, and usage reports.
- Maintain thorough records of all rights agreements for easy access and efficient retrieval.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with producers, account teams, and the global rights management division to ensure smooth project execution.
- Collaborate with international offices, acting as a regional liaison for shared client assets and global policy implementation.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with talent agencies, stock companies, and other industry partners.
Technology Utilization:
- Leverage rights management software to track rights, generate reports, and manage talent information.
- Manage talent and asset information within our digital asset management system, ensuring accurate metadata and efficient searchability.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in rights management technology and processes.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a similar role with a strong emphasis on rights management.
- In-depth understanding of industry guidelines and experience negotiating talent agreements within a union context.
- Comprehensive knowledge of copyright law, intellectual property rights, and industry best practices for rights clearance and licensing.
- Exceptional organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in rights management software, digital asset management systems, and standard office software.
