About the Role:
The Post Independent seeks a seasoned journalist to lead our newsroom as a senior reporter/assistant editor. This role requires a skilled reporter who can foster professional relationships with city staff and other key figures in the area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report on municipal government and economic development, with a focus on Glenwood Springs and occasional coverage of Carbondale and the county's west end.
- Lead on designated production days, working with reporters, copy editors, and designers to help get our print edition out.
- Balance reporting and editing responsibilities, bringing at least three years of prior daily reporting experience to the role.
- Collaborate with the newsroom team to identify and pursue story ideas, and provide feedback to reporters.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the community's needs and concerns, and use this knowledge to inform reporting and editorial decisions.
Requirements:
- At least three years of prior daily reporting experience.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and lead on designated production days.
- Spanish language experience is a plus.

- A competitive salary of $55,000-$60,000 depending on experience.
