Executive, Deputy Chief Life Underwriter

As a Deputy Chief Life Underwriter, Executive, you will play a critical role in leading a team of underwriting professionals in setting USAA Life Company underwriting policy. You will work closely with the Chief Life Underwriter and other senior executives to develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures that align with expected mortality and morbidity performance.

- Lead a team of underwriting professionals in setting USAA Life Company underwriting policy.
- Collaborate with the Chief Life Underwriter and other senior executives to develop and implement underwriting policies and procedures.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and management support for the Life Company underwriting department.
- Oversee and conduct ad-hoc mortality and risk classification trend analyses.
- Develop and implement accelerated underwriting processes, including the use of data analytics and third-party evidence providers.
- Provide executive thought leadership on complex and unique underwriting cases and contestable claims.
- Collaborate with key resources and stakeholders to influence decisions and manage work to achieve strategic goals.
- Bachelor's Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 10 years of life insurance underwriting experience with in-depth understanding of medical, non-medical and financial underwriting principles and practices.
- 4 years of people leadership experience in a life insurance underwriting function to include building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
- Executive-level business acumen in the areas of underwriting policy, innovation and life insurance industry practices, emerging trends, major issues and regulatory considerations.
- Extensive experience in evaluating new underwriting data sources with an emphasis on electronic health data.
- Experience developing and utilizing accelerated underwriting processes, including the use of data analytics and third-party evidence providers.
- Deep technical knowledge of underwriting systems.
- Experience with underwriting rules engine and rules management.
- $10,000,000 or more of Life Insurance Approval authority.
- Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU).
- Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).
- Competitive salary range: $163,880.00-294,980.00.
