About the Role

The City of Lakewood is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to fill the position of Adaptive Aquatics Specialist. As a key member of our Therapeutic Recreation team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality aquatic programs for individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation and facilitation of comprehensive therapeutic recreation-based aquatic programs for people of all ages and abilities.
  • Manage program resources, make onsite program decisions, and develop program lesson plans.
  • Directly supervise staff, participants, and volunteers, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Provide 1:1 support to individuals with disabilities participating in general recreation and leisure aquatic classes.
  • Prepare supplies and checklists for upcoming aquatic programs, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Collaborate with other Variable Staff to support program delivery and lead key programs as assigned.
Requirements
  • Some High School (Diploma or equivalent preferred) and/or some College education.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities, preferably in a recreational or therapeutic setting.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Sign Language skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, parents, and caregivers.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt swim lessons as needed for swimmers with varying abilities.
Work Environment

The work environment varies by location of work, with programs running during the day, evenings, weekends, and overnight. Office work typically occurs in a typical business hour setting.

Pay Range

$16.31-$21.47 per hour.
