Position Overview

You will report directly to the Head of Legal and primarily assist Sales, Product, and Engineering teams, while also having the chance to broaden your responsibilities within a compact legal team in a dynamic start-up environment.

The ideal candidate is a commercially astute lawyer with a strong focus on execution, ready to take the lead on significant agreements, and adept at making insightful and innovative decisions. This position demands a high level of independence, coupled with a collaborative spirit to provide exceptional legal support to our internal stakeholders. A willingness to engage in hands-on work and navigate uncertainty is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the drafting, structuring, and negotiation of intricate commercial contracts with a wide array of clients and partners, including automotive OEMs, autonomous vehicle startups, and other entities within the AV ecosystem.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team on legal issues crucial to the company’s expansion.
  • Work collaboratively across various departments (e.g., Sales, Finance, Product, Engineering) to spearhead important initiatives.
  • Assist with intellectual property, product, and compliance matters as necessary.
  • Develop templates, playbooks, and training materials to enhance consistency, speed of execution, risk management, and scalability.
  • Establish and implement efficient legal operations processes, programs, and tools to support the legal team's service delivery to the broader organization.
  • Proactively handle additional responsibilities that may arise within a small legal team in a high-growth start-up.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including software licenses, strategic partnerships, and joint development agreements.
  • Experience in negotiating and drafting intellectual property and material contract representations in stock purchase, merger, and asset purchase agreements.
  • A professional demeanor suited for a fast-paced, sales-oriented environment, requiring outstanding organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and adherence to strict deadlines.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in a state bar.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 20%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in both law firm and in-house settings.
  • Degree in computer science or engineering.

The salary range for this position is $180,000 - $250,000 USD annually. This range is an estimate, and actual compensation may vary based on the company's compensation practices.
