Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse in the PACU

Position Title: RN - Post-Anesthesia Care Unit

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia in a same-day surgical environment. Take full accountability for patient care in alignment with physician directives and facility protocols. Oversee the utilization and billing of medical supplies within the center.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Supervisor of Clinical Services

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Registered Nurse License.
  • Current certifications in BLS, PALS, and ACLS from the American Heart Association.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Evaluate, design, and execute comprehensive nursing care plans for post-operative patients.
  • Document and communicate any symptoms, reactions, or changes in the physical or mental state of patients to the appropriate healthcare personnel.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Provide care and discharge instructions for post-operative patients in accordance with facility standards.
  • Assess the need for pain and nausea management effectively.
  • Ensure all medication administration is preceded by a physician's order.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy for both patients and staff.
  • Offer emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other departments involved in patient care.
  • Facilitate patient admissions to the recovery area.
  • Manage the routine billing of medications and supplies.
  • Verify charge sheets for accuracy regarding supplies used.
  • Demonstrate independence in emergency situations.
  • Make informed and timely decisions based on sound judgment.
  • Engage in continuous education to maintain professional competence.
  • Fulfill requirements for continuing education units for re-licensure.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff members by providing accurate information about current departmental policies.
  • Act as a resource for new employees.
  • Ensure cleanliness and adequate supply levels in the work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing: 66-100%
  • Sitting: 0-33%
  • Walking: 66-100%
  • Lifting: Up to 50 lbs. as necessary
  • Carrying: Up to 25 lbs. as necessary
  • Pushing: Up to 400 lbs. with assistance as needed
  • Climbing: 1-5 flights of stairs as required
  • Pulling: As necessary for patient care
  • Bending: Required for picking up items from the floor
  • Squatting: As necessary for patient care
  • Rotating: Shoulders as necessary
  • Kneeling: If necessary for patient care
  • Reaching: Overhead while providing patient care
  • General comments: Adequate visual and auditory senses are essential for patient care.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily indoors (95-100%)
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, and odors
  • Temperature range: 30F-115F
  • Noise from biomedical equipment and other operational tools
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and electrical equipment
  • Personal Protective Equipment is provided (gowns, gloves, masks, head covers).
