The University of Maryland Faculty Physicians is seeking a full-time Medical Director for its Oncology Services. This leadership role is crucial in advancing the mission of the institution through the development and management of comprehensive cancer care programs.
POSITION OVERVIEW
- Collaborates with the executive team to design, assess, and implement clinical initiatives that enhance patient access and quality of care.
- Acts as the primary representative for the oncology service line, engaging with community partners to facilitate seamless service delivery, patient education, and innovative screening initiatives.
- Provides direct patient care as needed, serving as an attending or consulting physician for hospitalized patients.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements in all aspects of care delivery.
- Contributes medical insights to strategic planning, facility modifications, infection control measures, and safety protocols.
- Identifies opportunities for improving patient safety and addresses issues related to medical care quality.
- In partnership with leadership, establishes annual operational goals that align with the strategic vision of the Oncology Clinical Service Line.
- Participates in clinical and research meetings to ensure alignment with institutional objectives and research protocols.
- Conducts peer review processes as required and supports the ongoing education of clinical staff.
- Engages in outreach and marketing initiatives to promote oncology programs and participates in community health activities.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the leadership team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads and supervises clinical staff to ensure high-quality medical care delivery.
- Fosters a culture of safety and reliability within the organization.
- Oversees clinical service operations, including cost management and quality assurance.
- Involved in the recruitment and evaluation of medical personnel, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Addresses practice-related issues and promotes professional development among staff.
- Attends and contributes to various organizational meetings.
- Monitors clinical documentation and compliance with medical standards.
- Implements policies and procedures to enhance clinical effectiveness and operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following:
- A Doctoral degree in Medicine with a specialization in oncology.
- A minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
- Current CPR and ACLS/BCLS certifications.
- Board certification or eligibility in oncology.
- Proven track record of involvement in professional organizations and contributions to the field through research or publications.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
