About the Chief Executive Officer Role

The Wendt Center is in search of a Chief Executive Officer to continue its nearly 50-year legacy of empowering individuals to regain a sense of safety and hope after trauma. The ideal candidate will embody a profound commitment to the Center's mission and philosophy, providing a robust foundation to foster hope and healing within the community. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will manage three direct reports and lead a dedicated team of 30 clinical and program staff, ensuring the effective delivery of services while providing strategic leadership in fundraising, administration, financial oversight, program development, and public relations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management
  • Oversee the creation and execution of the annual budget.
  • Manage the annual audit process.
  • Collaborate with the Board’s finance and audit committees to maintain operational efficiency and fiscal integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with financial entities to monitor and manage the Center's assets and liabilities.
  • Facilitate the effective implementation of public and private payer systems within the organization.
  • With delegated authority, execute all necessary contracts, grants, and legal documents.
  • Oversee cash flow management and utilization of credit lines.
  • Authorize payments in alignment with the board-approved budget.
Fundraising
  • Ensure the organization has the necessary revenue to fulfill its mission and foster growth.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy with specific targets for grants and donations.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with new and existing donors.
  • Oversee fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Development Director and Board Development subcommittee.
Program Development and Administration
  • Revise and oversee the strategic plan to ensure mission effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Direct the development of programs to fill service delivery gaps and enhance accessibility.
  • Ensure all programs deliver high-quality services through careful evaluation.
  • Guarantee compliance with grant requirements and deliverables.
  • Foster a strong organizational culture aligned with the Wendt Center's values.
  • Inspire and hold staff accountable for achieving both individual and organizational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and maintain adequate insurance coverage.
Public Relations
  • Enhance the visibility of the Wendt Center as its primary spokesperson, communicating transparently through various channels.
  • Represent the Center at local and national levels within the grief and loss community.
  • Engage with community and government committees to understand resources and needs in the mental health sector.
  • Build and maintain relationships with leaders in the grief and loss community and potential donors.
Board Development
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to implement the strategic plan effectively.
  • Advise the Board on policy decisions and organizational health.
  • Report on program implementation and financial status to the Board.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Board or Executive Committee.
Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a leadership capacity.
  • A proven track record of operational leadership and effective policy implementation.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and external representation.
  • Experience in fostering authentic organizational relationships.
  • Strong team management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging and inspiring diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of mental health, particularly in grief and trauma.
  • Understanding of non-profit management principles.
  • Ability to cultivate ongoing commitment among board and staff to advance the Center's mission.
