Your Role

The Back Office Analytics team at Blue Shield of California supports operations stakeholders with data-driven insights to drive a better member/provider experience while reducing administrative and healthcare costs. As a Medical Informatics Analyst, Consultant, you will report to the Sr. Manager of Back Office Analytics and provide analytic support to the operations team. Your responsibilities will include defining business problems, developing analytic frameworks, and producing insights that support transformational initiatives improving healthcare operations efficiency and member experience.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand problems and provide guidance/support before being asked
  • Conduct independent analysis of complex domains with minimal supervision
  • Develop analytical methods for production and delegate tasks to junior analysts
  • Develop documentation and create workplans for analyses, coordinating activities with team members
  • Provide training and mentoring on best practices for analysis
  • Analyze structured and unstructured data to size and solve business problems
  • Build complex data sets from disparate sources with required linkages
  • Use statistics, text mining, and predictive modeling to answer business questions and generate insights
  • Work directly with business stakeholders and leaders to become an embedded analytic partner
  • Lead teams of analysts to produce impactful insights in a fast-paced environment

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires an MPH, MBA, MS, MA, RN, or RHIA in health science, quantitative social science, public health, health services research, or business, or BA/BS with demonstrated equivalent work experience
  • Requires advanced proficiency in SAS, R, or Python for data wrangling, automation, and statistical modeling
  • Requires at least 7 years of prior relevant experience
  • Requires expert-level skill with SQL, Excel, data visualization, query tuning, and various database models
  • Requires high-level curiosity, conceptualization, and problem-solving skills
  • Requires proficiency in statistics, regression techniques, text mining, and predictive modeling
  • Desire at least 5 years of experience in Healthcare (managed care, academic, or gov't payer)
  • Desire proficiency in agile methodology, confluence, Jira, and cloud-based computing and data platforms
  • Desire experience with medical claims payment, payment integrity, corporate recovery, provider operations/relations, provider network management, inventory management, and workforce productivity measurement
