Position Overview

In this role, you will work under direct supervision to facilitate financial stability by accurately and efficiently entering patient information to generate claims for medical services rendered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather all necessary data elements to complete the intake process within the hospital's revenue cycle management system.
  • Utilize patient tracking systems to monitor and arrange appropriate patient placements within nursing units.
  • Maintain a fundamental understanding of various sponsored programs, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, Tricare, and other insurance payers, along with their authorization requirements.
  • Possess a proficient working knowledge of the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire policies and procedures.
  • Verify patient eligibility, benefits, and medical group affiliations, as well as secure insurance verification and notifications as required. This may involve phone calls, payer websites, or hospital registration applications.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of all department and regulatory documents, explaining their significance to patients and obtaining necessary signatures.
  • Appropriately band patients and distribute labels and face sheets during the registration process.
  • Safeguard and return patient valuables in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Generate estimates, request, and collect patient financial responsibility payments for hospital services.
  • Provide prompt and professional customer service, ensuring timely assistance to all patients.
  • Answer incoming calls courteously, identifying yourself and your department, routing calls, assessing needs, and taking accurate messages as necessary.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, demonstrating a basic understanding of these guidelines and referencing them to explain to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Input data related to bed polls and notify administrative supervisors of any alerts as needed.
  • Engage in interdepartmental committees and task forces representing the Patient Access department.
  • Complete the Midnight Census, ensuring all necessary changes are made in applicable systems nightly.
  • Participate in daily performance improvement meetings and hospital initiatives utilizing lean methodologies.
  • Review physician orders for completeness to ensure compliance during the intake process.
Experience Requirements

Years of Experience: 1 year in healthcare revenue cycle, medical industry, or customer service.
