We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Specialist to join our team at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. As a Patient Care Specialist, you will work under the direction of the RN to provide direct patient care, transport services, and general support duties.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, including basic care, transport, and repositioning
- Implement the patient care plan by providing direct patient care using AIDET during all forms of communication
- Perform purposeful hourly rounding and document actions or observations in the record
- Answer the telephone and patient call system promptly and courteously
- Receives report from the RN before beginning assignment and informs RN of new or unfamiliar condition changes
- Maintain a safe working environment, including ensuring unit equipment is accounted for and in good working order
- Assist in maintaining a well-functioning unit by ordering appropriate supplies for patient care and refilling nurse servers
- Understand role in maintaining medication security and utilize safe patient handling techniques
- Identify patients using identity band and verify medical record number prior to blood administration
- Adhere to infection prevention guidelines, including good hand washing technique and proper disposal of infectious waste
- Perform vital signs per physician order or unit policy and document and notify RN of any change or abnormal findings
- Assist patients and families and refer questions to the RN for follow-up
- Apply and monitor oxygen as directed by the RN and apply, monitor, and document the use of restraints
- Ensure that comfort supplies are easily accessible and collect specimens as instructed using appropriate technique
- Perform POC testing, quality control, and maintenance procedures, including uploading data on monitoring device
- Obtain blood and blood products from Blood Bank according to policies and procedures
- Prepare patient for examinations and treatments, draping, setting up equipment, and stocking supplies for bedside procedures
- Assist/performs treatments as directed by RN, including weight application, ambulation, foley care, application of binders, and others
- Apply EKG leads to patients and set up monitors, perform basic and 12 lead EKGs when the EKG technician is not available, and follow Cardiology Department procedure to file and record EKG
- Document accurately on I and O sheets all intake and output for assigned shift, including suction, hemovac, T-tubes, and foley outputs
- Provide break coverage for unit secretaries or other PCTs and comparable positions
- Assist with transfers, ensuring secure and complete transfer, and transport deceased patients to the morgue
- CNA certification, successful completion of first semester enrolled in RN program, or current certification as National Registry EMT or LA County EMT
- BCLS or ACLS Certification within 6 months of hire
We offer a competitive compensation range of $23.00 - $31.51 per hour.
