The University of Tampa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Campus Safety Officer to join our team. As a key member of our safety and security team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol the campus perimeter, buildings, and grounds to provide a visible deterrent to crime and maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Respond to crimes and other incidents committed on campus, report on same, and provide support to affected individuals.
- Enforce university and department policies and procedures, and maintain building and room security.
- Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and enforce parking regulations on campus.
- Unlock and lock buildings and rooms when facilities personnel are not available.
- Provide information and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students, as well as external parties.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and maintain a professional demeanor.
- A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Law enforcement or military police experience preferred.
- Must qualify for Florida Department of State Class 'D' and 'G' licenses.
- Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
- Ability to climb stairs to the top of a nine-story building, make judgment calls while under pressure, and carry and use a firearm if necessary.
- Apprehend and detain suspected law violators, if necessary.
- Excellent clear and concise communication skills.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records, and psychological check.
- Experience in using various safety department equipment, such as two-way radios, cameras, and computers.
- Experience in a college or university setting preferred.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs, such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
- Competitive hourly rate of $20.50 per hour, with an additional $2.00 shift pay.
