Key Responsibilities:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, you will provide direct patient support as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN). This includes assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients.
Ensure a safe and healing environment by performing safety checks, maintaining cleanliness in patient rooms and departments, and managing equipment and supplies effectively.
Facilitate patient care by acquiring and distributing necessary supplies, setting up equipment, and stocking patient areas. Responsibilities also include delivering nourishments, filling water pitchers, and distributing mail.
Perform essential nursing assistant tasks such as monitoring vital signs, managing blood glucose levels, and assisting with specimen collections. Provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report any changes in patient condition.
Engage in activities that promote patient comfort and reduce the need for restraints, while documenting care accurately in medical records.
Adhere to safety protocols and policies, ensuring compliance with standard precautions and understanding procedures related to exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Respond to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role and provide companionship and supervision to patients as required.
Actively seek feedback and identify personal learning needs, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and self-improvement.
Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members, respecting cultural diversity and maintaining a safe workplace.
Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and patients, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and a commitment to quality care.
Participate in unit activities, including responding to call lights, assisting with meal service, and transporting patients as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned, in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of a nursing assistant training program is preferred.
Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques is essential.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.
Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse only.
Licensure and Certifications:
CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration components.
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
Act 34 clearance is necessary.
