Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team in an ambulatory care setting. As a Medical Assistant, you will perform clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Your responsibilities will include assisting providers with patient exams, taking vital signs, and performing various clinical tasks.

The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and patient interaction skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. If you are a certified Medical Assistant with a passion for delivering high-quality patient care, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist providers with patient preparation, office procedures, and examination and education of patients.
  • Support the clinical care team, ensuring optimal best-practice patient flow and managing patient volume.
  • Review and prepare for scheduled patient visits, screen patients for preventative care needs, and conduct surveillance for transitions of care.
  • Conduct motivational interviews, including patient screening and coaching on disease management and motivation to change.
  • Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients and notify providers of findings.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety.
  • Perform selected patient and laboratory testing, including Point of Care Testing, tuberculosis skin testing, and electrocardiography.
  • Remove sutures/staples, document activities in the patient's electronic medical record, and perform required patient follow-up.
  • Provide escort and assist with patient discharge activities, provide chaperoning, and fulfill infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists within 1 year.
  • Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
