Job Summary

Child & Family Service is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist I to join our team. As a key member of our crisis intervention team, you will provide critical support to youth and families in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct participant intake and initiate necessary forms to open a case.
  • Perform crisis risk assessments and provide face-to-face stabilization services to youth in crisis.
  • Establish participant rapport and trust, providing empathetic encouragement and support.
  • Maintain participant safety by examining alternatives and providing options for alleviating the immediate situational threat.
  • Develop and implement plans to support participants in taking action to stabilize their situation.
  • Provide information and referral services to community resources and agencies.
  • Transport participants to hospital or TCH Home as needed, with parental consent.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality at all times.
Requirements
  • Four-Year College Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
  • Basic knowledge or training in a specialized or technical field, such as social work or professional accounting.
  • Over one year, up to and including two years of experience.
  • Skills in collaborating with other disciplines and agency personnel.
  • Knowledge of community resources and laws pertinent to crisis victims.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Strong verbal and listening skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and use of personal vehicle to transport participants, as needed. The incumbent must also be willing to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island.

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and continued employment is contingent on a record clear of convictions.

Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPR, CPI, and/or van driving training as necessary to ensure ability to perform essential functions.
