The Senior Security Officer performs advanced security operations.

This role is the highest level of security personnel and assists the Security Supervisor in achieving departmental objectives.

Responsibilities include monitoring premises, conducting preliminary investigations as necessary, and offering guidance and assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.

Additional duties encompass temporary switchboard responsibilities, such as managing the hospital's telephone switchboard, fire alarm system, and emergency response communications.

This position operates under limited supervision, allowing for significant initiative and independent decision-making.

Other responsibilities may include participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may necessitate flexible shift assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is expected, and you may be required to adhere to a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended hours, or overtime as per agency policy.


Conducts patrols of hospital grounds to identify and address unusual activities such as trespassing, vandalism, and emergencies.

Oversees and directs the daily tasks and performance of junior security personnel as needed.

Modifies the daily activities of security staff assigned to shifts to ensure departmental goals are met in accordance with the security supervisor's directives.


Ensures the safety of the hospital campus. Opens hospital gates as necessary and provides guidance and assistance to visitors. Inspects and secures buildings, properties, and equipment while documenting incidents or events occurring on hospital grounds.

Performs temporary switchboard duties as required.

Handles incoming calls and communications from dispatch (switchboard) as needed, including the fire alarm system and emergency response lines.


Monitors access points to prevent unauthorized exits or escapes. Investigates and records unusual incidents such as thefts, fires, vehicle accidents, unauthorized departures, and weather-related occurrences.

In the absence of the Security Supervisor, takes on administrative responsibilities such as preparing departmental schedules and reviewing reports.

Represents the security department in meetings and events as directed by the Security Supervisor or Directors.

Responds to fire alarms, assesses the situation, and resets alarms as necessary.

During actual fire emergencies, guides the fire department to ensure swift access and minimize impact on the hospital, staff, and patients.

Provides crisis intervention when needed, assisting staff in managing disruptive or aggressive patients or visitors, and removing disruptive individuals from hospital premises.


Operates state vehicles to transport patients, employees, and visitors on or off hospital grounds.

Maintains inspection records to ensure the safe operation and preventive maintenance of vehicles.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

These may include actively participating in or supporting the agency's obligations for disaster response and recovery or COOP activation, which may require flexible shift assignments.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with alarm systems

Understanding of traffic and parking regulations

Knowledge of emergency response protocols

Proficient interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and the public

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to compose clear security incident reports

Capability to patrol grounds, identify incidents, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks

Ability to respond swiftly and calmly in emergencies

Physical capability to walk or stand for extended periods

Ability to drive out-of-town

Proficient in operating a wheelchair van.
