Lead Specialty Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Specialty Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of patient care through the accurate and efficient performance of laboratory tests and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring that all sections are adequately staffed and that tests are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Oversee laboratory staff in the performance of qualitative and quantitative test procedures, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Act as a subject matter expert for technologists, providing training and guidance on the correlation of test data and the implementation of solutions to problems in processing and delivering highly accurate patient data.
- Participate in QA/QC concerns, which relate to results data delivery and patient care, ensuring that all required quality control and calibration procedures are completed.
- Track and respond to questions relating to testing procedures and results, providing accurate and timely information to patients and healthcare providers.
- Perform technical procedures in Microbiology as outlined in the policy and procedure manual(s), ensuring that all required quality control and calibration procedures are completed.
- Perform periodic/scheduled and as needed maintenance on instrumentation/equipment, maintaining documentation including remedial action for problems encountered.
- Ensure that all required Quality Control and/or calibration procedures are completed by signing out the records appropriately, per shift/daily/monthly, etc.
- Maintain all records as per the regulatory requirements, including card files, patient requisitions, LIS documentation, and statistical data.
- Consult with the Supervisor or the Pathologist, if needed, on all important results, conflicting or out of range (recognized patterns specified in policy) results, and notes inadequate volume and/or abnormal appearance of sample.
- Reviews all Critical Test results by repeat analysis if necessary, and communicates the same to Nursing Staff/Physician every time, and Supervisor/Pathologist is always notified in extreme cases.
- Prioritizes work activities to meet the established/expected test result turnaround time, always notifying Supervisor if cannot perform a test or it is delayed.
- Assists in Inventory Control to assure adequate supplies (QC, reagents, calibrators, and other consumables) are available and reagents are stored properly (temperature sensitive), and supplies are dated appropriately when placed in use.
- Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Lab Management, taking initiative in resolving instrument-related problems and finding alternate options for test processing.
- Uses available time to departmental advantage and assists where needed, demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.
- B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required.
- MS Degree with 2 years experience as a Medical Technologist to function as a Supervisor.
- 6 Years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist to function as a Supervisor.
