Role Purpose:
The primary responsibility is to plan and implement turnaround and shutdown operations safely and efficiently, adhering to established standards and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill HSE accountabilities and competencies for the role.
  • Assist in gathering and challenging work scopes as part of the Managed Equipment Care (MEC) initiative.
  • Verify field work described in the approved Turnaround Work List and create detailed activity scopes, including craft types and estimated hours.
  • Evaluate jobs to determine the best approach for achieving turnaround objectives, focusing on cost-effectiveness and safety.
  • Compile bills of materials for assigned tasks, ensuring timely delivery prior to unit feed-out.
  • Develop work packages with comprehensive details for planning and execution, identifying and escalating high-risk activities.
  • Ensure adherence to plant policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Turnaround Block Coordinators and Event Schedulers to create efficient schedules for work execution.
  • Act as an Area Field Coordinator (AFC) during execution, managing the P6 schedule to drive effective operations.
  • Oversee field activities during Turnaround execution, serving as the primary contact for contractors.
  • Implement environmental plans concerning waste disposal and other related activities.
  • Serve as the Quality Captain for assigned areas, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Facilitate coordination among craft disciplines during execution.
  • Report daily on the status of all assigned work.
  • Manage the turnover of work packs and systems during execution.
  • Maintain turnaround documentation and records.
  • Conduct critiques of turnaround activities post-project completion.
  • During periods of low activity, assist base maintenance planners to reduce planning backlogs.

Challenges:

  • High-pressure and fast-paced environment, especially during execution phases.
  • Regular work hours during planning, escalating to 6-7 days a week during execution, with potential for extended hours.
  • Balancing performance across safety, environmental, quality, scheduling, and cost metrics.
  • Achieving results aligned with industry benchmarks for turnaround costs and durations.
  • Maintaining strong team relationships during high-energy and stressful periods.

Qualifications:

  • Proven supervisory skills in managing craft personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Customer-focused mindset, particularly in operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster consensus.
  • Proficient in computer applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Primavera P6, Visio, and GSAP.
  • Leadership and coaching capabilities.
  • Experience in managing and implementing change.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in executing turnarounds, preferably within a refinery setting.
  • 3-5 years of experience in planning turnaround activities.
  • At least 1 year of experience in scheduling using P6.
