Summary
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in diagnosing and repairing a variety of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet, maintaining its safety and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform computer diagnostics, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and develop comprehensive repair plans.
- Conduct DOT inspections and evaluate the performance of all drive train components on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks, including steering systems.
- Repair minor to emergency-level damage to vehicle bodies, such as doors and landing gear.
- Install, adjust, or align wheels, wheel components (bearings), and air brake and valve systems. Diagnose and repair braking and valve systems.
- Possess a strong understanding of air/electric/hydraulic brake and valve systems for effective diagnosis and repair.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols, company policies, rules, and regulations. Identify and address potential hazards or report them to your supervisor.
- Demonstrate expertise in vehicle body control systems, including electronics, AC, and hydraulic systems. Proficiency with light/medium and heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines (Cat/Cummins), transmissions, 12/24 volt vehicle electrical systems, water blasting equipment, heavy-duty vacuum trucks, and air machines.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all units as scheduled and undertake other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 3+ years of proven experience in diesel mechanical repair and maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with colleagues and clients.
- A valid CDL and TWIC card are highly desirable.
- Must possess your own tools, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic.
- Technical Institute training or equivalent work experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Ability to perform electrical wiring tasks.
- Basic understanding of OSHA, fire protection regulations, and fall protection practices is preferred.
- Commitment to adhering to all safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and company policies.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle heavy tools effectively.
- Capacity to climb on and off equipment, ascend and descend ladders safely.
- Must be able to stand, kneel, or crawl for extended periods while performing essential job duties.
- Work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures (hot/cold), wind, ice, humidity, rain, fog, hail, sleet, and snow.
- Adapt to working in daylight, twilight, evening, and potentially low-light conditions.
