Position Summary:

The Facilities Instrumentation & Electrical Engineer will report to the Base Engineering Supervisor. This role is pivotal in supporting the establishment and uniform application of engineering and construction standards for 'Base' process facility projects, which include Facility Debottlenecking, Artificial Lift Conversions, GHG Reduction Technology, and Operation/Maintenance Upgrades. The Facilities I&E Engineer will work collaboratively with various departmental representatives to ensure project execution from initial concept through to commissioning and start-up phases.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with Project Engineers, Production Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Regulatory, HSE, Planning & Scheduling, Surface Projects, Right of Way, Supply Chain, Drafting, and Third-party Engineering to effectively develop and implement facility infrastructure plans.
  • Provide troubleshooting and optimization support for Instrumentation and Electrical systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist Project Teams, Maintenance, and Operations during the execution, commissioning, and start-up of facility upgrades and modifications.
  • Collaborate in defining the scope of work, preliminary and detailed design, BOM generation, cost estimation, equipment selection, procurement, and construction cost management for Base Facility Projects.
  • Develop technical specifications, single line diagrams, schematics, and cable schedules; work alongside Project Engineers to create cause and effect charts, control narratives, and P&ID's.
  • Offer electrical engineering support in Electrical Areas Classification, Arc Flash, Grounding, and Power Distribution Management.
  • Work with I&E Designers (both in-house and third-party) to produce wiring diagrams, grounding plans, Electrical Area Classification, control cabinet layouts, and I&E installation details.
  • Support the Management of Change (MOC) Process, including participation in Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews (PSSRs) to adhere to the HSE Management System.
  • Engage in Risk Assessment Evaluations and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Monitor and report on the progress of Base Facility Projects, reconciling actual project costs with forecasts.
  • Provide innovative project solutions to meet critical schedule constraints or budgetary requirements.
  • Lead the development of programs and standards to maintain Instrumentation and Electrical equipment within process facilities for Production Operations and Preventative Maintenance Departments.
  • Interpret and implement Corporate & Industry Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering Standards, Specifications, and Code Requirements.
  • Review deviations from Corporate and/or Industry Standards.
  • Provide impartial feedback on compliance with Electrical Codes and classifications to management.
  • Ensure modifications, designs, and construction standards for I&E equipment are effectively managed through the Management of Change (MOC) Process.
  • Oversee the sourcing and management of Engineering Contractors.
  • Support programming efforts related to PLC, RTU, HMI, SCADA, and radio/wireless designs.
  • Exhibit strong SPIRIT values and establish recognition as a technical specialist within the Business Unit.

Qualifications:

Basic/Required:
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Instrumentation, Controls, and/or Electrical Engineering (or foreign equivalent)
• 5+ years of experience in the Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical Industry
• 5+ years of experience in the oil and gas sector
• Experience collaborating with various Engineering disciplines
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects
• Willingness to travel to sites as necessary to support field activities
• Ability to travel 20% annually (with or without reasonable accommodation)
Preferred:
• 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas sector
• 10+ years of experience in technical areas of Instrumentation/Automation and Electrical fields
• 10+ years of experience in the design/construction of Oil & Gas Production/Processing Facilities
• 10+ years of experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), RTUs, and SCADA Systems
• Advanced knowledge of Technical Standards (API, ASME, NFPA, NEC, ISA84, etc.)
• General knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulatory requirements
• Familiarity with Cyber Security/Process Control Networks
• Experience directing Engineering Contractors
• Advanced understanding of the Project Execution process, from Concept to Start-up
• Ability to specify appropriate equipment and materials and evaluate alternatives
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with a team of technical professionals
• Experience working with Operations and/or Maintenance Departments
• Competency in written communications and presentations
• Field experience in Construction-related activities
