Position Overview:

This role is pivotal in overseeing the Southern Regional signing and striping hub, ensuring effective supervision of all signing technicians within the designated regional area. The incumbent will play a key role in formulating the annual signing work program and managing all signing assets, which include overhead signs, shoulder-mounted signs, and delineation signage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations, developing and executing annual work plans while ensuring efficiency in both contracted and in-house work.
  • Provide leadership to the signing and striping team, enhancing the AMS skills of existing and new staff to maximize operational efficiencies.
  • Oversee the management of roadside and roadway features, ensuring scheduled inspections and prioritizing sign repairs as necessary.
  • Review project plans and specifications, providing technical input during construction projects and ensuring compliance with maintenance contracts.
  • Monitor permit work for adherence to specifications and departmental standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Extensive technical knowledge of roadway signing and pavement markings.
  • Understanding of procurement procedures and ADOT specifications related to highway signage.

Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Critical thinking skills pertinent to traffic operations and material services.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in management and team leadership.
  • Time management and electronic scheduling capabilities.

Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and shift priorities as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate the work of others.
  • Provide clear reporting and track performance metrics.
  • Make informed decisions and manage budgets effectively.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Five years of experience as a Highway Operations Tech II, or three years as a Highway Operations Technician III, or two years as a Highway Operations Tech IV.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Valid Arizona Class D Driver License.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
