Position Overview:

The Quality Improvement Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Director in the enhancement and modification of the Medical Center's Quality Improvement initiatives.

This position involves coordinating efforts across various departments, committees, and medical personnel to create and document continuous evaluation processes; conducting studies and targeted reviews; analyzing data; and advocating for the Medical Center's Quality Improvement Program among medical, nursing, and support teams.

In the absence of the Director, the Quality Improvement Coordinator may assume their responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities:


Collaborate with Service Line Leaders, Chiefs of Service, Medical Staff Committee Chairs, Physicians, and Department Administrators to aid in the establishment of ongoing evaluation programs aimed at identifying, addressing, and reporting opportunities for enhancing patient care.

Represent the Department in Medical Staff committees as needed.

Design, implement, and assess studies and focused reviews as requested by Medical Center Administration, medical staff, or department heads, often involving sensitive and confidential medical legal matters.

Oversee and execute continuous Quality Improvement activities throughout the medical center to ensure compliance with licensing and regulatory standards.

Utilize and educate staff on data visualization tools, including statistical process control techniques.

Engage in risk management by investigating patient-related issues, identifying trends in patient care challenges, and formulating policies and procedures to mitigate risks.

Monitor adherence to quality improvement standards.

Assist in supervising the activities of Quality Improvement Analysts and support personnel.

Contribute to the preparation of Quality of Care reports for regional offices and the Board of Directors.

Develop and deliver presentations on quality improvement standards and the Medical Center's Quality Improvement Plan to ensure compliance with TJC, NCQA, and other regulatory agency requirements.

Conduct specialized clinical studies related to patient care management.

Participate in the annual formulation of the Medical Center's Quality Improvement goals.


Basic Qualifications:

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years as a licensed hospital nurse is required.

At least one (1) year of experience in quality-related activities is necessary.


Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

License, Certification, Registration: A current California RN license is required.


Additional Requirements:

Experience in a patient advocacy role to ensure a patient-centered approach.

Familiarity with medical procedures and terminology, along with strong planning, organizational, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

Comprehensive knowledge of Title 22, TJC, and NCQA standards for licensure and accreditation.

Proficiency in PC applications, including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.

Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a quality improvement role, including leading and facilitating performance improvement teams.

A Bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare is preferred.

Current Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification is preferred.

Previous experience in Quality Improvement is advantageous.
