Key Responsibilities
  • Guide patients and their families to and from the examination area.
  • Provide a thorough explanation of the examination process to ensure patient understanding and cooperation.
  • Collect anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for physician analysis.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document sonographic findings and observations for physician review.
  • Prepare preliminary reports for physician evaluation and signature.
  • Collaborate with physicians to review imaging studies.
  • Assist physicians in procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
  • Accurately code services rendered.
  • Ensure the ultrasound equipment is functioning properly and perform necessary maintenance.
  • Identify and rectify equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in examination rooms.
  • Oversee inventory management of ultrasound supplies.
  • Adhere to accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining various imaging modalities.
  • Comply with universal safety precautions and OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in safety and security training.
  • Provide coverage for Sonographer absences as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Preferred: Minimum six months of experience as an ultrasound technician in an OB/GYN or MFM environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in operating ultrasound machinery.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduate from an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
  • ARDMS OB/GYN certification or eligibility required.
  • Fetal echo certification or eligibility to obtain within 12 months of hire; fetal echo experience preferred or training will be provided.
  • Completion of a program in OB/GYN ultrasonography.
  • CPR certification is mandatory.
  • Completion of either two years in an Allied Health Educational Program with one year of on-the-job training in ultrasonography, or an approved ultrasonography educational program.
  • Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
  • Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to meet accreditation standards.
