Job Title: Medical Assistant - Contract

Location: Long Island City, NY

Duties:
  1. Patient Care Responsibilities: Fulfill patient care responsibilities, such as performing venipuncture and EKGs, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with walking, transferring, and dressing, collecting specimens, conducting point-of-care testing, and preparing for exams. Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions, and provide information to patients and families.
  2. Clerical Tasks: Perform clerical tasks, including managing patient medical records, obtaining lab reports, completing forms, and managing charts using electronic medical records (EMR) or manually.
  3. Order Management: Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
  4. Inventory Management: Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as necessary.
  5. Examination Room Preparation: Set up examination rooms and instruments following sterilization techniques and infection control policies.
  6. Logging and Maintenance: Maintain a logging system for refrigeration of medications, point-of-care testing, sterilization processes, and crash carts.
  7. Supply Management: Check expiration dates on medications and supplies, disposing of them appropriately according to policy.
  8. Work Environment: Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and legal regulations.
  9. Personal Protective Equipment: Comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for exposure to hazardous materials.
  10. Medical Chart Maintenance: Assist in maintaining medical charts, including filing reports, test results, and home care forms.
  11. Scheduling: Schedule surgeries and procedures or work with the Surgical Coordinator to verify patient times and prepare pre-admission and consent forms.
  12. Phlebotomy: Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
  13. Front Desk Operations: Schedule appointments, register patients, and update demographic and insurance information.
  14. Schedule Adjustments: Adjust and confirm patient office schedules.
  15. Insurance Verification: Verify and update insurance information using internal or web-based systems.
  16. Pre-Certifications: Perform and verify pre-certifications for procedures as necessary.
  17. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills:
  • Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • General Competencies:

    2. Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    3. Telephone Etiquette: Excellent telephone etiquette.

Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED: High School Diploma or GED, with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
Licensing and Certification Requirements:
  • Medical Assistant Certificate: Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • BCLS Certification: BCLS certification (AHA) – Required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant: Certified Medical Assistant is preferred.
Certifications & Licenses:
  • BLS Certification: BLS certification.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate: Medical Assistant certificate.
Languages:
  • English: English (Speak, Read, Write).
Minimum Degree Required:
  • High School Diploma: Completed High School (Diploma or GED).
