Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Surgical Technician to join our team at NYU Langone Health. The successful candidate will have experience in small animal surgery and a strong background in biomedical research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex survival mouse surgeries, including ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery, femoral artery ligation, aortic arch transplant, aortic banding, adipose tissue transplants, venous thrombosis, and arterial thrombosis models.
  • Coordinate and assume primary responsibility for all animal-related surgical and pre-/post-operative care.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state, federal, and institutional laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to animal research.
  • Maintain experimental data/records and present these in weekly meetings.
  • Work closely with bench scientists to understand and help accomplish their research goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate or graduate college degree with research experience in the biomedical sciences.
  • In-depth knowledge and prior experience (at least 2 years) in performing aseptic survival surgeries (anesthesia/intubation/ventilation and post-operative care in mice or rats).
  • Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and oral English.
  • Evidence of a capability to plan, execute, and interpret experiments.
  • Demonstrated research ability as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in the areas of vascular biology or surgical models of disease.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Imaging experience.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
