University of Louisville Physicians (ULP) is in search of experienced Pulmonologists to join its esteemed facilities. This role involves serving as the attending physician for Pulmonary and Critical Care services.
The physician will be responsible for both pulmonary consultations and rotations in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. The typical schedule requires weekday attendance from 7 AM to 5 PM, with after-hours responsibilities including nights and weekends. Night call duties extend from 5 PM to 7 AM, with an average of two nights per week of home call. The physician will respond to urgent procedures, admissions, and consults during these hours. Weekend responsibilities include rounding on pulmonary floor and ICU patients on Saturdays and Sundays, in addition to being on call from Friday evening through Monday morning.
Beyond inpatient care, the attending physician will also conduct outpatient clinic services at UofL Health facilities. Responsibilities encompass general pulmonary clinics and specialized clinics aligned with the physician's expertise. Outpatient clinics are scheduled for 2-3 half days weekly when the physician is not engaged in ICU duties.
The physician will perform a range of Pulmonary Core privileges, which involve admitting, evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and providing consultative services for patients with various thoracic or chest-related diseases, injuries, and disorders. This includes the lungs, airways, cardiovascular system, tracheobronchial systems, esophagus, diaphragm, and circulatory system.
Key procedures performed will include, but are not limited to:
- Chest tube insertion and management
- Central venous catheter insertion and management
- Bronchoscopy with or without biopsy
- Paracentesis and thoracentesis
- Management of mechanical ventilation, both chronic and acute
- Percutaneous tracheostomy
- Tracheal intubation
- Administration of moderate sedation and analgesia
Minimum Education and Credentials Required:
Applicants must possess an M.D. or an equivalent foreign degree, a valid medical license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and should be board eligible or board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care.
Travel between UofL Health facilities within the metropolitan area is a requirement for this position.
