Pulmonary Medicine Specialist

University of Louisville Physicians (ULP) is actively seeking qualified Pulmonologists to join its esteemed medical team. This role involves serving as the attending physician for the Pulmonary and Critical Care services at the UofL Health facilities.
The physician will be responsible for both pulmonary consultations and rotations in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. The standard schedule requires weekday attendance from 7 AM to 5 PM, with after-hours duties extending to nights and weekends. Night shifts typically run from 5 PM to 7 AM, with an average of two nights of home call per week. The physician will be called upon for urgent procedures, admissions, and consults during these hours. Weekend responsibilities include rounding on pulmonary floor and ICU patients from Saturday to Sunday, in addition to home call from Friday evening through Monday morning.
Beyond inpatient care, the attending physician will also engage in outpatient clinic services at UofL Health facilities. Responsibilities encompass general pulmonary clinics as well as specialized clinics tailored to the physician's expertise. Outpatient clinics are scheduled for 2-3 half days weekly when the physician is not on ICU duty.
The physician will exercise Pulmonary Core privileges, which involve admitting, evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and providing consultative services for patients with conditions affecting the thorax, lungs, airways, cardiovascular system, tracheobronchial systems, esophagus, diaphragm, and circulatory system.
Procedures performed by the physician will include, but are not limited to:
- Management and insertion of chest tubes
- Central venous catheter insertion and management
- Bronchoscopy with or without biopsy
- Paracentesis and thoracentesis
- Management of mechanical ventilation, both chronic and acute
- Percutaneous tracheostomy
- Tracheal intubations
- Moderate sedation and analgesia
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess an M.D. or an equivalent foreign degree, hold a valid medical license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and be board eligible or board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care.
Travel between UofL Health facilities within the Louisville metro area is required.
