UofL Physicians is actively seeking skilled Pulmonologists to join our esteemed healthcare team. This role involves serving as the attending physician for our Pulmonary and Critical Care services. The position encompasses both pulmonary consultations and rotations within the Medical Intensive Care Unit.

The typical schedule requires weekday attendance from 7 AM to 5 PM, with after-hours responsibilities including night and weekend coverage. Night call spans from 5 PM to 7 AM, with each physician averaging two nights of home call weekly. Responsibilities during these hours include responding to urgent procedures, admissions, and consults. Weekend duties consist of rounding on pulmonary floor and ICU patients from Saturday to Sunday, along with home coverage from Friday evening until Monday morning.

In addition to inpatient care, the attending physician will also conduct outpatient clinic services at our facilities. This includes managing general pulmonary clinics and subspecialty clinics tailored to the physician's expertise. Outpatient clinic sessions are scheduled for 2-3 half days each week when not engaged in ICU duties.

The physician will be entrusted with performing core pulmonary privileges, which involve admitting, evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and providing consultative services for patients with various thoracic and pulmonary conditions. This includes the lungs, airways, cardiovascular system, tracheobronchial systems, esophagus, diaphragm, and circulatory system.

Key procedures performed by the physician will include, but are not limited to:

  • Chest tube insertion and management
  • Central venous catheter insertion and management
  • Bronchoscopy with or without biopsy
  • Paracentesis and thoracentesis
  • Management of mechanical ventilation, both chronic and acute
  • Percutaneous tracheostomy
  • Tracheal intubations
  • Moderate sedation and analgesia

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess an M.D. or a foreign equivalent degree, hold a valid medical license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and be board eligible or board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care.

Travel between UofL Health facilities within the metropolitan area is required.
