Job Summary:

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a skilled Mental Health Technician to join our Emergency Department team. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, their families, and colleagues. Your duties will include direct patient care, monitoring, and documentation, as well as coordinating patient activities and managing emergency situations.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care and monitoring, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Coordinate patient activities, such as trips to the garden, to promote physical and emotional well-being.
• Manage emergency situations, including potential violence, and work with patients in highly stressful and anxiety-producing situations.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care and support to patients and their families.

Requirements:

• High school graduate or GED required; AS or BS degree in mental health or human services related field preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, including work in psychiatric facilities, corrections, hospital security, community crisis teams, or individual work with children or adults with special needs.

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position, working 24 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
