Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at Christus Health. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and education in our ophthalmology clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Advanced understanding of ophthalmic anatomy and ability to efficiently scribe for physicians.
  • Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care, collect patient history, and perform patient education.
  • Perform technical workups, including visual acuity, lensometry, color vision, visual field tests, manual keratometry, refraction, Amslers, muscle testing, topography, pupil exams, OCT, pachymetry, and other special testing as directed by physician.
  • Advanced technical workups in performing retinoscopy and A-Scans as directed by physician.
  • Follow physician protocol for A-Scans and fill in at Special Testing when needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Graduate of accredited Vision program preferred.
  • 1 year of experience working at an Ophthalmology clinic setting required.
  • BLS required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from IJCAHPO required.
  • Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) preferred.
