At Orlando Health, we are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Clinical Observation unit, a 40-bed diverse acuity unit that provides comprehensive care for patients in the MedSurg, observation, and progressive care settings. Our unit is ideal for those who thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, caring for patients who are admitted directly from the emergency department or through direct referrals from physicians. Patients typically stay with us for a duration of eight to 48 hours, offering a unique opportunity to engage with a constantly changing patient population.
Key Responsibilities
Shift: NIGHTS only
Status: Variable Full Time
- Conducts thorough assessments of patient needs and formulates or updates individualized care plans based on patient responses and requirements. Monitors and evaluates patient progress towards expected health outcomes.
- Fosters an inclusive environment by building respectful relationships with all team members and patients.
- Acts as an advocate for patients and their families.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for the patient population served.
- Serves in various roles such as preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, or nurse clinician.
- Collaborates effectively with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care and unit management.
- Models professional behavior and supports the organizational goals and nursing strategies.
- Understands the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, assessing and interpreting data relevant to each patient's age-specific needs.
- Coordinates patient care and delegates tasks appropriately to team members based on patient needs and team member qualifications.
- Documents patient care accurately and consistently, adhering to all regulatory standards.
- Exhibits proficiency in nursing skills and the use of unit-specific equipment.
- Prioritizes patient care in alignment with Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
- Employs effective problem-solving strategies.
- Communicates pertinent information regarding patient conditions or unit concerns to the healthcare team.
- Creates a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
- Collaborates with educational and nursing leadership to support the transition and development of new team members.
- Ensures regular attendance in accordance with organizational policies.
- Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education and Training
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Meets all mandatory training and competency requirements.
Licensure and Certification
- Holds a current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, and TNCC certifications may be required for specific areas.
Experience
- Minimum of one year in an acute care setting; prior experience in observation or progressive care is preferred.
