Job Title: Strategic Navigation Department Head

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Navigation Department Head to join our team at The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University. As a key member of our Navigation Research and Development Division, you will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team in the development, integration, and evaluation of high performance navigation systems and sensors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of engineers and scientists in the development and evaluation of navigation systems and sensors
  • Develop and lead proposals and projects to advance our knowledge of high performance navigation systems and sensors
  • Provide project updates to sponsors and stakeholders, and present research findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Collaborate with program management, sponsors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Perform engineering work related to navigation engineering and strategic weapon systems
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and collaborate with engineers in other technical areas
  • Plan, staff, and execute programs to ensure all departmental staff are appropriately tasked
  • Foster a collaborative environment across the department, division, and office
  • Recruit, retain, and define performance expectations of department staff
  • Mentor and develop the skills of department staff
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, plus 10 years of related experience
  • Expertise in all aspects of navigation systems and strategic weapon systems, including PNT technologies
  • Experience supporting DoD acquisition and/or sustainment programs
  • Demonstrated success leading a team of engineers/scientists
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active government security clearance

This is a full-time position located on-site at our facilities in Warminster, PA, State College, PA, or Uniondale, NY. A hybrid on-site/remote work schedule may be possible.
