Position Overview
This is an exempt role with clinical responsibilities. The individual will operate as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner within the surgical department. This role entails managing the care of surgical patients, addressing new consultations, and serving as the intermediary among the surgeon, patient, and clinical team.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Adhere to the organizational Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Conduct comprehensive physical assessments, evaluate health conditions, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and manage illnesses.
- Collaborate with physicians as necessary and refer complex medical cases to them as required.
- Round on surgical inpatients to ensure optimal care delivery.
- Assist in surgical procedures when necessary.
- Document patient interactions and consultations accurately.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds and team discharge meetings.
- Consult on surgical patients in both inpatient and emergency settings.
- Engage with relevant specialties as needed.
- Monitor treatment plans and ensure continuity of care.
- Assess patient inquiries and concerns, providing timely responses to emergencies, including CPR when required.
- Educate patients and families on healthcare matters.
- Maintain confidential patient records and may contribute to departmental statistical databases for research and quality improvement.
- Possess knowledge in anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Educational & Professional Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner:
- Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is highly recommended.
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State (Adult/Geriatric).
- Maintain an active collaborative practice agreement.
- Hold current National Certification.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is highly recommended.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all procedures, techniques, and skills as per delineation of privileges.
Physician Assistant:
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in New York State.
- Hold current National Certification.
- Maintain current privileges at White Plains Hospital.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution is highly recommended.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is highly recommended.
Demonstrate proficiency in all procedures, techniques, and skills as per delineation of privileges.
