GENERAL PURPOSE
In a collaborative setting or while working autonomously, this role involves a range of responsibilities related to the upkeep and management of parks, recreational areas, landscapes, and associated facilities.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consistent attendance is essential, with the ability to operate effectively in an active environment. Tasks must be managed from initiation to completion efficiently while handling multiple job requests daily. Responsibilities include maintaining parks and recreational spaces through weed control and lawn care. Duties also encompass cleaning and servicing court areas. Responsibilities extend to the installation, repair, and upkeep of irrigation systems, including pipes and sprinkler heads. Regular maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms is required, alongside the cleaning, painting, and repairing of outdoor furniture and surfaces. Minor repairs of park structures are also part of the role. Routine maintenance of lawn care and power tools is expected. Preparation of grounds for planting grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers is necessary, along with maintaining soil health through watering and pest management. Collection and disposal of waste and litter from facilities and grounds are required. Opening and securing facilities as needed is part of the job. Assistance in setting up and dismantling equipment for various events and programs is also expected. Installation and maintenance of sports facility equipment, such as goal posts and nets, is included. Participation in the construction of new park facilities, which may involve clearing, grading, drainage, and foundational work, is part of the responsibilities. Accurate record-keeping of completed tasks is essential.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Complete all tasks assigned by the supervisor. Perform various cleaning duties and provide backup support for related roles as needed. Assist in the upkeep of swimming pools and splash pads. Participate as a member of various employee committees as designated. Undertake other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A valid Texas Class C Driver's License is mandatory.
- A valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
- At least one (1) year of experience in park maintenance is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in lawn care, pool maintenance, welding, and general building upkeep is preferred.
Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
Familiarity with equipment, materials, and supplies used in grounds and building maintenance. Understanding of tools and supplies needed for minor repairs.
Skills
Basic to intermediate skills in landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and concrete work.
Abilities
Work Coordination: Ability to adhere to daily work routines either independently or as part of a team. Prioritize tasks effectively to meet established deadlines and avoid redundant efforts. Estimate completion times for tasks and communicate efficiently with supervisors and team members.
Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to follow directions from supervisors or senior maintenance personnel. Maintain positive interactions with the public and foster effective working relationships with fellow employees and supervisors.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Utilizes a variety of lawn and landscape equipment, as well as general maintenance tools, including but not limited to tractors, backhoes, mowers, aerators, chainsaws, edgers, wood chippers, pressure washers, pumps, irrigation systems, and various hand and power tools. Also operates swimming pool maintenance equipment, including chlorination systems, pumps, boilers, valves, filtration devices, and gauges. Janitorial equipment such as floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, and vacuums are also used.
