Job Summary

The Payroll Accountant will serve as the liaison between the Payroll and IT departments to ensure the timely and accurate setup and maintenance of the University ERP HR/Payroll System. This role reports to the Accounting Operations Manager and assists with directing the monthly payroll/tax processes to guarantee that University employees are paid, payrolls are balanced, payroll fundings are requested, Finance GL is interfaced and balanced, payroll liability accounts are reconciled, and payroll taxes are completed timely and accurately.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify changes/issues from various Payroll departments (IT, Payroll, HR Offices, Budget Department, Contract and Grant Accounting, and other University Campus Departments) to thoroughly research, analyze, and test each to ensure desired resolutions are reached.
  • Document and communicate changes and procedures within the HR/Payroll System by presenting clear and concise instructions of expectations to ensure effective and efficient processing within the HR/Payroll environment.
  • Assist in filling any gaps the Payroll Office may have with payroll processing and payroll administration work.
  • Implement the Employee Self-Service time entry platform.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience with payroll tax accounting, investigating and resolving payroll-related accounting issues, and other related payroll accounting experience.
  • Experience with automated timekeeping systems.
  • Strong understanding of large ERP systems and how to troubleshoot payroll discrepancies.
  • Detailed-oriented, organized, problem-solver, and team player.
  • Proficient in Excel spreadsheet design creation with data comparisons.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Higher Education or public accounting.
