About the Position: The Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a skilled Food Service Worker to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Food Service Worker to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to patients, as well as maintaining a clean and safe environment in the kitchen and dining areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes and guidelines, ensuring that all food is presented in a clean and attractive manner.
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the kitchen and dining areas, adhering to strict health and safety standards.
  • Supply Management: Manage inventory levels and orders for food, supplies, and equipment, minimizing waste and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to patients and their families, responding to their needs and concerns in a respectful and compassionate manner.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and objectives, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and a positive attitude.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous experience in food service or hospitality industry; training or certification in food safety and sanitation a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Basic math skills and ability to accurately manage cash and credit transactions
  • Familiarity with commercial cooking equipment and techniques

Salary Range: $21.00 - $25.50 per hour
