Job Overview:

The General Maintenance Worker is engaged in construction and modernization tasks on waterfront vessels, primarily within shipyards and drydocks. The role requires adaptability to varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures.


The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and facilities, necessitating practical skills and knowledge in various trades such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Replacing electrical components such as receptacles, wires, and fixtures.
  • Utilizing plaster or similar materials to mend minor wall and ceiling damages.
  • Repairing or substituting plumbing fixtures like sinks and toilets.
  • Painting and maintaining structures and equipment.
  • Restoring concrete surfaces, including floors and sidewalks.
  • Replacing damaged interior finishes and installing doors and locks.
  • Performing general upkeep on machinery and equipment.

Exclusions from this role include:

  • Craft workers in formal apprenticeship programs.
  • Skilled workers demonstrating proficiency in specific trades.
  • Individuals performing basic maintenance tasks not requiring specialized skills.
