About the Role

Utah Community Action is seeking a skilled Kitchen Steward to join our team. As a Kitchen Steward, you will be responsible for operating, sanitizing, and maintaining central kitchen equipment. This includes washing dishes, flatware, cutlery, kitchen vessels, sweeping, and mopping floors. You will also be responsible for maintaining the kitchen, warehouse, and dishwashing area in an inspection-ready condition, following local health department and head start guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, sanitize, and maintain central kitchen equipment
  • Wash dishes, flatware, cutlery, kitchen vessels, and sweep and mop floors
  • Maintain the kitchen, warehouse, and dishwashing area in an inspection-ready condition
  • Ensure disposal of all waste and recycling and maintain all chemical levels
  • Report any maintenance or hazard issues to the Kitchen Manager
  • Assist in food prep as directed by the Kitchen Manager
  • Provide backup to Food Prep & Delivery Drivers
Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Current food handler's permit, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire, required
  • Current Driver's License
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of experience working in a kitchen
Working Conditions

The Kitchen Steward will participate in activities that will require standing, moving items and supplies, cleaning, loading, and unloading trucks. The ability to lift 50 lbs. multiple times per day and the ability to recall and retain information are also required.

Work Schedule

The Kitchen Steward will work a schedule of approximately 6:00am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday, Friday 7:00am-11:00am. The office is located in South Salt Lake.
