UPMC Altoona is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to support the PACU with a varied schedule that includes day shifts and optional evening shifts. The pay rate for this position is $30.00/hour.

Purpose:

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct and indirect care to patients using the nursing process. You will also provide leadership for the nursing team and contribute to the education of various staff members and students.

Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Include the patient and family/significant other in the formulation of the plan of care.
  • Prioritize patient needs appropriately.
  • Plan, conduct, and document patient care conferences.
  • Maintain a current plan of care for each assigned patient.
  • Utilize appropriate community agencies and other healthcare professionals in planning care.

Assessment:

  • Assess patient and family needs and document this information appropriately.
  • Reassess patient every eight hours, and as necessary.

Implementation:

  • Utilize nursing care protocols and standards.
  • Carry out and document procedures according to Hospital Policy.
  • Perform technical skills safely and accurately and demonstrate a working knowledge of equipment.
  • Transcribe and implement physicians' orders appropriately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the physiological basis for the nursing care delivery.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medication and IV therapy administration according to policy.
  • Initiate and coordinate health teaching for patients and families/significant other based on individual needs.

Evaluation:

  • Revises plan of care, as necessary, based on daily evaluation of patient.
  • Evaluate patient's outcome based on previously defined goals.
  • Evaluate and document the patient's response to care, teaching, and treatment.
  • Adhere to universal precautions.
  • Identify potential problems and initiate appropriate measures.
  • Identify environmental factors that deter effective patient care, initiate action, and contribute ideas towards resolution.
  • Engage the medical staff and other professionals in discussion of patient care problems resulting in mutually developed plans of care.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in providing patient care.
  • Serve as a consultant to other members of the healthcare team.
  • Comply with established occupational exposure policies.
  • Maintain proficiency and competency in point of care testing as defined in the evaluation criteria established by the laboratory.
  • Complete annual competency validation activities.
  • Utilize Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and all other computer systems appropriately.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state.
