Position Overview

Clinical Support Technician II (Nursing Assistant II + Clerical) for the Cardiology and Oncology Stepdown Unit

The Cardiology and Oncology Stepdown Unit (COSU) is a specialized 13-bed intermediate care facility dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes professional development and empathetic patient care. Our team is engaged with cutting-edge treatments and the complexities of critical care patients. Collaboration and teamwork are essential elements of our unit, ensuring we deliver exceptional "Carolina Care" to our patients and their families. Our cohesive team manages admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges around the clock.

*This role is eligible for our Nursing Support Incentive Program, which offers $5,000 distributed over a three-year commitment. More details about the program can be found on our website.

This is a full-time position, requiring 36 hours per week with 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), including weekend and holiday duties. The role comes with a comprehensive benefits package, including accrued PTO based on hours worked. Attendance at a mandatory week-long hospital orientation is required every two weeks.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist healthcare professionals during routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
2. Diligently review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in the patient's condition, and promptly report to a registered nurse or physician.
3. Perform various clerical tasks such as organizing and prioritizing workload, welcoming and directing visitors, researching information as needed, reviewing orders for clarity, revising orders as directed by nursing staff, answering phone calls and patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory management.
4. Provide administrative support, including participation in PI audits and data entry.
5. Offer clinical support, which includes maintaining cleanliness in the work area, managing office equipment, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, changing linens, checking supply inventory, restocking supplies, transporting patients, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.
6. Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Measure and document vital signs, height, and weight. Responsibilities may also include specimen collection, skin preps, catheter care, glucose checks, simple wound care, and various other clinical tasks.
7. Reinforce educational information provided to patients by registered nurses or physicians and document patient comprehension of instructions. Distribute educational materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.

● High School diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Certified as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
● Certified as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
● Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
● Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Professional Experience Requirements:
● One year of clerical or customer service experience and six months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include a nursing assistant course or a combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Proficiency in verbal and written English. Ability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
