Position Overview:
The Meal Program Shift Lead serves as a pivotal facilitator for the successful execution of meal services. This individual, in collaboration with team members, is responsible for the preparation and distribution of meals during breakfast, lunch, or dinner, as well as overseeing all related operations. The Shift Lead is instrumental in managing the dining area, kitchen, and coffeehouse during each meal or preparation period. The role may require extended hours, including evenings and weekends, with a strong emphasis on attendance and flexibility based on organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise program staff, interns, and volunteers before, during, and after meal services to ensure smooth dining operations. Assign roles and responsibilities based on operational requirements, while monitoring punctuality and performance.
- Collaborate with team members to manage all aspects of kitchen, dining room, and coffeehouse operations during designated meal periods.
- Maintain clear communication of responsibilities and expectations through regular feedback and observations to uphold quality standards and service excellence.
- Exemplify and coach exceptional customer service, effective job performance, and compassionate problem resolution.
- Prepare meals, ensuring quality by tasting and smelling to verify proper cooking.
- Ensure food presentation and portion sizes are appropriate and visually appealing.
- Prepare the dining room, dish area, kitchen, and coffeehouse for subsequent meal periods, ensuring proper storage of all food products.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in all service areas throughout the day, adhering to a written cleaning and sanitation schedule.
- Assist the DFMP Manager in addressing personnel matters in line with GLIDE's policies.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to resolve issues effectively.
- Provide safety expertise and professional assessments for necessary interventions.
- Engage in collaborative departmental and inter-departmental projects.
- Support the Manager with administrative tasks as needed.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards throughout the food production facility, in accordance with California food safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience leading a team in a community-focused organization, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to leadership and team supervision.
- Excellent communication abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment usage and maintenance, including stoves, refrigeration, and dishwashing machines.
- Commitment to quality service and a solid understanding of food and beverage principles.
- Familiarity with health and sanitation regulations, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proven ability to de-escalate conflicts and manage challenging behaviors.
- Cultural competency and the ability to work effectively across diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Certificates and Licenses:
- Completion of Tuberculosis screening and possession of a California Food Safety certificate are mandatory.
- CPR, AED, First Aid, and N.E.R.T training are advantageous.
Compensation: $28 - $30 per hour
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement.
COVID Policy:
All staff members are required to be fully vaccinated, with exceptions for medical or religious reasons. Mask-wearing in the office is optional for staff.
