We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Health & Safety Consultant with a specialization in Biosafety to enhance our Professional Services team. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of environmental health and safety principles, enabling the identification of challenges and opportunities for our clients while maintaining exceptional service quality.
The primary objective of this position is to ensure the safety of client personnel, contractors, and the surrounding environment. The consultant will conduct thorough evaluations of workspaces, equipment, and processes to ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain in-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations relevant to biosafety, particularly those set forth by the CDC and NIH.
- Apply biosafety principles effectively across various laboratory and research settings.
- Demonstrate expertise in recombinant DNA technology and associated biohazards.
- Exhibit strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage effectively in diverse environments.
- Participate in the management of Institutional Biosafety Committees.
- Conduct inspections of laboratories and other environments to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Perform safety inspections, evaluating the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
- Identify potential hazards and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
- Assist in investigating incidents and recommending corrective actions.
- Engage with client personnel on safety issues, providing actionable recommendations.
- Facilitate safety training sessions, including new employee orientations and hazard communication.
- Prepare detailed reports, including accident documentation and regulatory compliance records.
- Contribute to the development and revision of safety policies and procedures.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in biosafety, environmental safety, or laboratory compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Biology, Microbiology, or Occupational Health.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Experience in a BSL2/ABSL2 laboratory environment.
- Completion of professional development courses in biosafety.
- Active membership in a national safety organization.
- Progress towards obtaining a professional safety certification.
