Department Overview
The Finance Office at Augusta University manages financial operations to support the institution's educational, service, and research objectives. Key divisions under Finance include Budget Services, Financial Operations, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Supply Management.
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Budget Analyst to assist in the preparation, maintenance, and oversight of departmental budgets. This role involves collaboration with staff at all levels to address budgetary concerns, as well as generating and analyzing financial reports. The Budget Analyst will also provide training and ongoing support to various departments.
Key Responsibilities
As a Budget Analyst, reporting to the Assistant Director of Budget Operations, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the preparation, maintenance, and monitoring of departmental budgets, collaborating with personnel to resolve financial issues.
- Formulating budgetary recommendations through data analysis, departmental operations assessment, and policy review.
- Reviewing and processing budget amendment requests.
- Supporting position management by analyzing requests for new positions and salary adjustments, ensuring budgetary justifications.
- Creating monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, including budget versus actual analysis and trend projections.
- Contributing to the preparation of the university's original budget, including final submissions.
- Participating in training sessions for departmental staff and providing continuous guidance.
- Engaging in testing for budget-related processes and systems.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience Requirements
A minimum of two years of experience in budgeting, finance, or accounting, with familiarity in PeopleSoft Financials and/or HCM.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and data visualization tools. Experience with PeopleSoft Financials or Workday, and in developing and maintaining Tableau databases is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong understanding of budgeting, financial, and cost accounting principles. Knowledge of financial management practices and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong organizational abilities, time management, and multitasking skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a keen attention to detail and confidentiality. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities are essential.
Work Schedule/Compensation/Benefits
Work Schedule: Days, Monday through Friday (additional hours may be required).
Pay Band: 11
Salary Range: $56,600.00 - $70,155.00 annually, commensurate with qualifications.
Augusta University provides a comprehensive benefits package for full-time eligible employees, including health and dental insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays. Eligible employees may also participate in the Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment.
