About the Job

As a Medical Laboratory Technician at Houston Methodist, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality laboratory results in an efficient and cost-effective manner. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory techniques, principles, and equipment, as well as excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations using various analyzers and/or manual methods.
  • Organize workload and set priorities, utilizing all available work time to assist others and perform additional tasks.
  • Meet turnaround time expectations as defined by management.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below.
  • One year of work or training experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
Certifications and Licenses
  • CLA - Certified Laboratory Assistant (ASCP) within 1 year.
  • MLT(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) within 1 year.
  • MLT - Medical Laboratory Technician (AMT) within 1 year.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
Work Environment
  • Uniform: Scrubs
  • Business professional attire may be required for certain situations.
