The Blood Component Manufacturing Technician is responsible for processing blood products and samples during the first shift. This role is part of a unionized environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture blood products and samples, ensuring quality and quantity production goals are met while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Process blood products after receipt from donors, including scanning, leukoreduction, and component separation (red cells, platelets, and plasma).
  • Implement effective inventory management practices throughout the manufacturing and distribution process.
  • Utilize computer programs for data entry related to component production, labeling, storage, and sample tube management.
  • Analyze visual inspections and information from other departments to make informed decisions.
  • Perform complex manufacturing tasks, including pooled product manufacturing and pathogen reduction.
  • Communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays, to meet hospital needs.

Standard Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 1st shift; Tuesday-Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm.

Training: The first 4-6 weeks will involve regular daytime hours from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Compensation: The hourly rate is $20.39, with additional shift differential pay for Saturday hours.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills, attention to detail, accurate documentation, and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing, stretching, stooping, and bending for extended periods. Ability to lift, pull, push, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May involve working in walk-in refrigerator/freezers and wearing protective clothing such as lab coats, gloves, and face shields.
